The II Azerbaijan Congress on Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases was held in Baku

On January 23–24, the "II Azerbaijan Congress on Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases" and the IV AzerTurkDiab Symposium were held in Baku.

The event was organized by the Turkish Diabetes Foundation and the Azerbaijan Diabetes League with the support of Referans Medical Group. The opening ceremony of the congress began with the playing of the national anthems of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey. Afterwards, the views of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, regarding the development of medicine and healthcare were presented to the participants.

Within the framework of the congress, the latest scientific developments in the field of diabetes and metabolic diseases, modern approaches to diagnosis and treatment, as well as current clinical topics were discussed. Leading endocrinologists, diabetologists, and specialists in the field from Azerbaijan and Turkey took part in the event.

During the event, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Diabetes Research and Application Center of Acıbadem University and the Azerbaijan Diabetes Technologies Center (ADİT), operating under the Referans Endocrinology and Surgery Center. The memorandum was signed by Hansiyar Babayev, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Referans Medical Group, and Temel Yılmaz, Head of the Diabetes Research and Application Center of Acıbadem University and founder of the Turkish Diabetes Foundation.

A course dedicated to diabetes technologies was held within the framework of the symposium. The course was aimed at enhancing the practical knowledge and skills of the participants and was of great importance from the perspective of the application of diabetes technologies.

Narmin Ismayilova, Chief Physician of the Referans Endocrinology and Surgery Center and Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine, spoke as the Chair of the Organizing Committee of the Congress. Narmin Ismayilova stated that, jointly with the Turkish Diabetes Foundation and with the support of the Azerbaijan Diabetes League and the Referans Endocrinology and Surgery Center, the organization of a series of congresses continues.

"Within the framework of the congress, courses dedicated to technologies in the management of diabetes, training sessions for family physicians, as well as special programs for nurses were organized. More than 300 physicians participated in the main congress.

For the first time in Azerbaijan, a book titled 'Guide to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus' has been published. The book belongs to the Turkish Diabetes Foundation, has been translated into Azerbaijani with the foundation's permission, and has been enriched with additions aligned with the country's healthcare system. The publication reflects the latest protocols and modern medical innovations," the Chairwoman emphasized.

In his speech, Professor Doctor Temel Yılmaz, Chairman of the Turkish Diabetes Foundation, noted that the event is dedicated to a topic that directly affects the lives of millions of people. According to him, diabetes is one of the most widespread diseases in the world, and approximately 15 percent of society suffers from this condition. "When not properly managed, diabetes leads to heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and other serious organ damage. In recent years, significant progress has been recorded in the field of diabetes. Many innovations that were considered a dream 10 years ago are being applied in real practice today," he added.

The two-day scientific program consisted of sessions dedicated to challenging clinical cases, new therapeutic methods, and innovative technological developments. Mutual scientific discussions and exchanges of experience created broad opportunities for the participants.

The congress was regarded as an important platform for sharing scientific knowledge in the field of diabetes and metabolic diseases, promoting modern medical approaches, and strengthening Azerbaijan-Turkey scientific cooperation.
